1999 Marlboro 500
worst crashes in motorsports history 4
An unfortunate series of events led to 1999 CART World Series final race held at California Speedway, to have a tragic ending. While being injured in a traffic accident just week before the race, Canadian Greg Moore insisted on participating in the race. With an injured right hand, Moore managed to endure 9 laps of the race before finally losing control over his car, and hitting the concrete barrier at almost 200mph. The way his car spun out and flipped mid air, caused Moore to hit the barrier almost directly with his head. He suffered severe head trauma and succumbed to his injuries shortly after.
